Preparation comes first.
RS Surface Coatings’s specified flake-system flow starts with grinding and preparation, followed by a moisture vapor barrier epoxy base coat, decorative flake in the specified receiving layer, removal of loose material and a protective topcoat.
Grind & Prepare
Prepare the concrete, remove dust and address compatible repairs.
MVB Epoxy Base Coat
Help manage moisture vapor within the selected product’s tested limits.
Broadcast Flake
Apply decorative flake into the receiving layer specified for the assembly.
Scrape & Clean
After the required cure, remove loose flake and prepare the finish texture.
Protective Topcoat
Use a compatible finish and follow the project-specific cure and care guidance.
What the moisture barrier does.
The MVB layer helps manage vapor moving through the slab within the product’s tested limits. It does not fix active leaks, poor drainage or every cause of coating failure. Some assemblies need a separate flake receiving coat. The chosen product documentation and the project specification determine the full sequence.

Ask for the exact products, preparation requirements, topcoat, recoat windows and return-to-use instructions. Polished concrete and grind-and-seal work follow their own processes; they are not automatically the same as a flake assembly.
